What You Missed at DrupalCon Portland 2024

Table of contents

DrupalCon 2024 was held last week in Portland, and the weKnow team was well-represented by Humberto, Andres, and Matias. They’ve shared the most important highlights of DrupalCon this year, along with their favorite talks. In this post, find out about their highlights.

The big announcement

This year, the “State of Drupal” keynote featured an exciting announcement: the introduction of “Drupal Starshot,” an initiative to make Drupal more accessible and user-friendly. This will ensure Drupal remains competitive with other CMS options.

Drupal Starshot will be designed to have a great out-of-the-box experience. It will enable Ambitious Site Builders without Drupal experience to easily create a new Drupal site and extend it with pre-packaged recipes, all using their browser.

The vision for Drupal Starshot is the outcome of highly productive brainstorming sessions with Drupal Core Committers, the Drupal Association, colleagues at Acquia, various Drupal agencies, and others.

This change also came with a Brand refresh. You can know more about this change here.

Sessions

With so many sessions at the event, we’re highlighting some of our team’s favorites.

Drupal 11 deep dive: what’s new, how to prepare

In this session we have a deep dive into all the new features and changes coming in Drupal 11, what’s different and how to get our sites ready for the upgrade. Very helpful!

So I logged in, now what? The Dashboard initiative welcomes you

In this session the team shared not just their accomplishments, but the whole journey they took to get there. It was inspiring to hear their stories and the challenges they overcame. They talked about what needs to happen next to reach their goals, and how even we in the audience can contribute. They made it super clear what kind of help they’re looking for, so it feels like there’s a way for everyone to get involved.

Save time upgrading from Drupal 7 to Drupal 10 using Retrofit

This session explored Retrofit, demonstrating how it enables Drupal 7 code to run smoothly within a Drupal 10 site.
