We just built our website on WordPress + Elementor

Why did we make this change?

Arriving at the decision to transition our company’s website from a Drupal headless environment to Elementor powered by WordPress was no small feat. It took months of deliberation among stakeholders, given our company’s longstanding history of Drupal CMS projects. Building our website has always been an opportunity to explore the latest technologies – from React for the frontend to a subsequent upgrade to Gatsby (remember Gatsby?), showcasing our penchant for innovation.

However, as much as we appreciated the technical prowess demonstrated by our headless setup, the practical challenges became apparent over time. Constant maintenance and updates were burdensome, often requiring extensive developer intervention. With nearly 90% of our workforce being developers, there was understandable skepticism about adopting platforms like Webflow or SquareSpace, or utilizing automation tools such as Airtable or Make.

I still remember the flak I got back in 2008 when mentioning to colleagues that I was using Drupal, yes… a CMS on my projects, as their answer was often saying that they preferred to build everything themselves from scratch. Apparently, everyone wanted to reinvent the wheel back then.

Nonetheless, the need for a more efficient and user-friendly solution became evident. We swallowed our pride and listened to the Marketing crew which led us to embrace WordPress and Elementor for this project. Their integrated approach, from planning to launch, offered a streamlined process that resonated with our objectives. Moreover, the ability to update content, modify layouts, and incorporate plugins without developer intervention was a game-changer.

While the transition did require some customization from our experienced WordPress developers and frontend expertise to refine layouts, the turnaround time was significantly reduced. What once took days or even months to implement now happened within hours. Despite initial reservations, the results speak for themselves, and our expectations remain high as we navigate this new era with Elementor and WordPress at the helm.

Don’t get me wrong, as heavy coders, we still remain Drupal fanatics. It is just that a small corporate website turns out to be an overkill for Drupal.

A new look for our brand

And with this new website, after months of meticulous design work and countless iterations, our team has crafted a brand identity that not only resonates with the current zeitgeist but also reflects our core values and aspirations as a company. The last time we underwent a brand refresh was in 2018, making this facelift long overdue and essential to our continued growth and relevance.
