We often hear the same question from clients: “Do I really need to update my Drupal site?” The answer isn’t always the same—it depends on which version you’re currently on.
If You’re on Drupal 7
You’ve probably already heard the news: support for Drupal 7 is ending in January 2025. That means no more security updates, no more bug fixes, and growing compatibility issues with modern hosting and integrations. The longer you wait, the more complex (and costly) your migration will be. Our advice? Start planning your move now.
If You’re on Drupal 8 or 9
These versions are also past their prime—officially unsupported and no longer receiving security patches. That makes your site a security risk and harder to maintain over time. If you’re still running Drupal 8 or 9, the best move is clear: migrate as soon as possible to a supported version.
If You’re on Drupal 10
Good news: you’re in a safe spot for now. Drupal 10 will continue receiving support until mid-2026.That gives you some breathing room, but don’t ignore Drupal 11. Upgrading will give you access to the latest features, improved developer tools, and long-term support. If you want to stay ahead, consider planning your upgrade sooner rather than later.
The Bottom Line
Not every Drupal site is in the same situation. If you’re still on 7, 8, or 9, the clock is ticking and migration is urgent. On 10, you have some time, but upgrading to 11 keeps you ahead. And if you’re already on 11, just keep it updated.
